Hannah Johnson, daughter of parishioners Steve and Wendy Johnson, will present a cello recital at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Canton, Ohio on Friday, June 23rd at 7:30 p.m. She will be accompanied by pianist Steve Wogamon, CEO of the Canton Symphony Orchestra. They will perform works by Bach, Hydn and Brahms. Admission is free. A reception follows the program.
biography
Cellist Hannah Johnson is currently studying at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) in New York City, where she is a student of David Soyer. Prior to her entrance at the Manhattan School of Music, Hannah attended the Walnut Hill School of Performing Arts, where she studied with Emmanuel Feldman of the New England Conservatory (NEC).
Hannah
has performed with a variety of orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the
National Festival Orchestra, NEC’s Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and UVMC Chamber
Orchestra where she worked with conductors Benjamin Zander and Maxim
Shostakovich. She has performed in venues such as Jordan Hall, Carnegie Hall
and Alice Tully Hall. She made several appearances on the classical radio show
“From The Top.” At MSM, Hannah continues as an active orchestral member,
performing with the Manhattan School of Music Philharmonia, Symphony, and Jazz
Philharmonic.
She received
multiple honors for musical achievements from London’s Royal School of Music. In
2003, Hannah was awarded a Diploma in cello performance from the school, and was
awarded her Licentiate of the Royal School of Music in 2005. Hannah has won
several concerto competitions, including performing as soloist with orchestras
such as the Windham Orchestra and the Vermont Philharmonic. In 2005, she was
the first recipient of the Jon Borowitz Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the
Vermont Philharmonic.
